Question by Hilary: Which Canon model should i choose?
Alright so I’ve done a bit a research and I’m down to a few models i actually like. Granted I do not want to pay more than $ 400 for a camera but i am looking to start a website on the internet and use the camera to put images up on the web but also great for outside usage like trips and whatnot. Sometimes reviews can only be so helpful so i’d like to ask you guys how much difference is there between the Canon PowerShot S90 and the Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS. I know each is a different type of camera but i was trying to see if getting an SRL would be twice as good for the price if you know what i mean. sense the sd1200 is $ 200 and the S90 is $ 400 is the S90 worth twice the price?

Or is there a middle of the road that can compromise?
Disregard the second part, i didn’t know it would just add on details. I was just wondering if there was some kind of middle of the road between the two. i do not think i want to keep adjusting the modes constantly… so a point and shoot would work but i want the image quality within minimum blurring.

Depends. I own a SD1100 IS and nearly bought an S90 as well. I ended up buying a G11 instead. I also own a digital rebel and a 40D.
The SD series is great to pull out of my pocket for quick moments. No complaints. It’s simple to use.
I chose between the S90 and the G11 because I wanted more control of the shot. The S90 is a sexy camera and the control ring on the front is amazing. My only gripe is the back ring….Its good when you need it, and bad when you don’t. Its too easy to knock the settings off.
I think both will serve your needs. The sensors are roughly the same. But if you don’t want to really think about your shot, I would go with the 1200 IS. Just set your exposure to -1 or -2/3. The light meter tends to sacrifice highlights for a bright shot. Brighten it up on the PC later.
An SLR will only help you if you want full control, changeable lenses, and doing print work at 8′x10′ and larger (bigger sensor). They look cool, but they get cumbersome if you don’t need them. Which is why I carry my G11 around for fun, and my 1100 IS for parties and such, where a low profile is better.
